The layering principle describes a multi-layer system consisting of several thin layers of clothing worn one on top of the other. This allows body temperature to be regulated flexibly using base, thermal and weather protection layers, whilst at the same time protecting the body from the cold, wind and wet.
Functions of the individual layers:
- Base layer: wicks moisture away from the skin.
- Insulation layer: insulates and retains body heat.
- Weatherproof layer: protects against wind, rain and damp.
An important tip for you:
Cotton is less suitable for a functional layering system in clothing. Cotton soaks up moisture, dries more slowly and remains ‘damp’ against the skin.
As a result, the body cools down more quickly and the benefits of the layering system (moisture wicking, quick drying) are significantly reduced.
Put together your STRAUSS workwear using the layering principle – with suitable functional base layers, mid-layers and weather protection – and adjust the number of layers flexibly to suit the weather and workload.
